I Don't Know

"I don't know" are three of the most uncomfortable words that I (now) say way too often.
When I’m super confused, I stretch it to four: I Do Not Know.
(Usually said with wide eyes and a slight head tilt.)
And I hate saying them.
A lot.
And I hate feeling them.
A lot more.
The younger me?
She was so much more confident diving into things she didn’t fully understand.
She had answers for everything!
I miss that crazy girl sometimes. Only sometimes.
But for now.
I don’t know.
A lot.
If I’m being honest, I’ve noticed a trend:
The older I get, the less I know.
But I’m told that happens to everyone, so… no unicorn here, I guess.
Strangely, some good comes from my ignorance because the less I know, the better my advice to anyone desperate enough to seek it.
Here are my top four suggestions, in no particular order, for anyone (or me) facing a challenge:
1. Sleep on it. Things are almost always clearer in the morning.
2. Take a breath. This doesn’t have to be decided right this second.
3. Take a walk or just sit outside. Bonus points if bare feet are smashed into the grass.
4. Just pray. And pray some more.
I wish I had five because I like a nice round number, but I don’t.
(Please feel free to share one or more of your favorites. I might steal one to round off my list.)
Any-who…
Today feels like a “top four” kind of day.
Why?
Because I don’t have the answers to solve the problems.
Because I just do not know.
And it’s an uncomfortable feeling.
So, I’ll sleep on it.
Breathe.
Touch the grass.
Pray.
And if I have enough time, I’ll sit in an Adoration Chapel.
Somehow, time worshipping Him helps me realize there's nothing We can't carry.
Together.
Hey, wait… did I just find my #5?
Come to think of it, if not knowing brings me to Him, maybe my ignorance is a quiet kind of wisdom.
The Master in disguise.
Hmmm.
