On a recent trip to South Carolina, my husband and I went on several hiking and biking adventures. As usual, he hoped to spot some wildlife in the lush landscape, but I had zero expectations. I just wanted to take in every aspect of the experience.

The paths were surrounded by thick brush with towering oaks draped in Spanish moss. (Disclaimer #1: I'm no tree expert, so I could be wrong about the tree "brand." That's just what they looked like to me.) I was having a visceral reaction to everything as the fresh air hosted a dance party in my lungs!

But as the hours passed, my husband’s excitement began to wane.

“Not a single deer,” he complained, glancing around at the silent trees. “How is that even possible? We’re surrounded by nature, and all we’ve seen are the same alligators we could spot back home!”

I shrugged. Trying to cheer him up, I said, “Oh, come on! That bumble bee licking honey off our charcuterie board was basically a bear in disguise. Let’s count THAT as a wildlife encounter!”

He rolled his eyes and said, "That WAS pretty wild."

We both laughed at his little pun.

See the bee?!
See the bee?!

Later that afternoon, as the sun dipped lower in the sky, we were unexpectedly gifted by the site of a perfect little deer family. (Disclaimer #2: I'm no deer expert, so the deer group may have only been friends and not actual blood relatives!) They paused, locking eyes with us for a few fleeting moments as if acknowledging our silent awe, and then they escaped into the brush to do deer things. They were magnificent

God is so EXTRA! He knows how to go over the top when He feels like it, and I stand READY to BEE amazed!
