Nicolle's story...
Nicolle's story...

(A story shared with The Divine in the Daily.)

Little things like this become big, beautiful memories.

I was looking for a specific headpiece to wear for my son’s wedding celebration. I needed it fast because we were flying out the following afternoon. Little did I know that JUJU’s, a local boutique, had such amazing and friendly employees.

Have you ever had someone at a store offer you more help than you could ever expect? Well, if you haven’t, maybe it’s because you don’t live in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and you haven’t been to Juju’s. I’m not sure if the sweet lady who helped me was the owner or someone who worked there, but it really doesn’t matter. The kindness and care she showed me will stay with me forever.

I showed her the dress I was wearing and explained what I had in mind for a headband. I was honestly taken aback by how seriously she took my search. She called the other stores to see if they had something that might work. She suggested something very similar to what I had been envisioning myself. But none of the stores had it.

I didn’t have time to order anything because we were leaving the next afternoon, so I assumed that was that. It wasn’t. This woman, a stranger, offered me something I never expected. She had a pearl headband at home, and she offered to let me wear it. Yes, you read that correctly. She told me she would go home, get it, and bring it back so I could pick it up at the store later. Her own headband! She went home to get something that belonged to her so that a stranger would have exactly what she wanted to wear on a very special day. Who does that?

Those are the type of people I want around me!

And now, when I look at the photographs from that celebration, I don’t just see the pearl headband that’s practically a perfect match to my mother-of-the-groom outfit; I see the kindness of someone who had absolutely no obligation to help me but chose to do so anyway.

It’s one of the reasons I am so happy I chose to live in a community where people sometimes treat you like family even when you’re not.

Thank you for letting me share your story, Nicolle! Stories like this are why I believe the Divine so often shows up in the daily, in small kindnesses that may seem ordinary to the person offering them but become unforgettable to the person receiving them.

If you have a story like this, a God wink, an unexpected kindness, or one of those little moments when you knew there was something more at work, send it to me. I’d love to share some of your Divines in the Daily here, too.
